My Brain Is Empty But Let's Kiss Anyway

(For Shayla)

As a wise poet once said:
"My hand is empty but let me take away
Your brain -- it doesn't belong to you."
And so that's what have we become of late --
The second hand people living off recycled
Words that offer neither substance
Nor meaning.

So let me take away your pain
That comes with too much thinking
About all the bullshit
That's being passed off as wisdom
By pretentious poets
From San Francisco or New York City
And let me replace it all
With the joy of wandering through these
Moonlit streets in loving abandon.

Let us forget the bons mots
And embrace the bonbons of experience,
And let no hollow verse replace the beauty
That surrounds us.

We'll walk through the secret places
Of lovers and we'll hear them whisper
In the flames of desire and
In the glittering eyes
That discover the inner universe
Of hands and lips, of hearts beating
Together to the gentle
Rhythm of love.

Where do we go? you'd say now.
Wherever the heart takes you --
No need for guidelines or maps,
Or worn-out adages --
We'll go to some bar of your choice
And just drink whiskey and smile.

And the stars will shine upon you,
My lovely radical queen,
And then I'll know
That the trip was well worth it.
