Crazy Kids
Yes, we were crazy kids
Before the world was normal
And we didn't care
What was right or wrong--
We just acted out our wildest
Wishes and desires,
Not like some old guys, who talk
About being crazy
In an organized and deliberate
Way--they do not know
The real excitement of doing
Something just for the hell of it
Like throwing a teddy bear from
The eighth floor, using a sheet
For a parachute
Or throwing fire balls from
A balcony and starting
A fire,
Or dancing naked in front of
The mirror, wearing a silly hat,
Pretending to be
On some African safari--
Yes, I was a crazy kid and
So were you--falling in love
Left and right, without
Thinking,
Dreaming of kisses in the sun,
As the world spun like
A merry-go-round,
Where nothing could
Stop the spontaneity
Of the heart--
Yes, we were crazy kids
And we took the world and
Turned it upside down --
And that was poetry,
And that was love...
